In last few weeks something has really been stuck in my mind. My mind is always full about concern of the security of my family back gome. May be all these recent incident happening is pinching me.
About 18 months ago a group threaten to kidnap my young nephew (bhanja), and asked for ransom of NRs 1 Million. The bargain went on for few weeks at the mean time we managed to get some help from police and track those culprits. Finally they were caught. We all were so relieved. But, I am not sure if any other culprit will try that again. Our family always escort him to and from school, and he is almost under house arrest due to his security.
My dad favours monarchy but isnt an activist. I fear if any group like YCL/YF are looking to take on my father. He is in his late 50s and does not have any political affiliations. I have a feeling that just having faith in monrachy could easily put him into trouble from these youth political groups. I am very much afraid of his security.
My mum and grandmom both loves wearing jewellary. Its just their habit, although they have decreased the amount, they still wear significant amount of it. Its hard for us to convince them to not to wear much. I fear if anyone would attack my mum or granny for those. I fear for their secirity.
I have couple of gadget-lover cousins all on their late teens. With the recent Nirmal/puskar incident, I have forced them not to take any gadget even their personal stereos out of home just coz I dont want any such thing to haapen to them. I fear for them.
My sister and bhinaju are well established in their business and well off. They get all the demads of donation from various group at all times. They fear not providing them their demand, just coz they want to be secure.
My family always used to get donation demand from Maoist during insurgency. Their cause for asking donation was just having few of my family members abroad. We all abroad are mere struggling student, who have problem of paying fees and rent every other month. They demanded half a million, and we paid, just coz of our parent need to be safe.
The situation is chaotic. I dont know, if you all guys have the same fear, but in last few weeks, my fear have grown sky high. I wish I could have cammando security to my family 24/7. I have not been able to sleep well few nights. I wish I could be able to get all my family aborad where I do not have to think about their everyday security.
Please share if you guys have similar feeling or any suggestion to keep our family safe.

Well, gyanguru it is not the best of time to show off. Particularly in kathamndu looting is more common these days. You hear time and again how the people who comes out of the bank have been looted. My Uncle/Aunt went to nepal 2 months earlier . But don't know how some people knew that they have come from overseas . They got a phone call asking for huge sum of money and threatened to come in next few days so keep all the money in order. They also said they have been killing people for number of years now during the insurgency time so its very normal for them. Luckily they never came. But these things are normal now. My friends dad who owns a big pharmaceutical has been paying Maoist regularly just to keep his company in order. Another friend who is currently a doctor in UK was himself been kidnapped 2-3 years ago by maoist. His dad is a very famous doctor in Kathmandu. They had to pay rather huge sum of money to get him out. It was a big news in Kathmandu then which even came in Nepalnews.

Sabibhanda sajilo YCL/Maoists banera threaten dina or extort garna sajilo chha, tesaile dherai le Maoist hu bhanda hun. Maoist aafai pani kehi had samma extort garda hun, tara achel kidnap nai bhane gardainan hola extortion ko lagi. I think independent criminal gangs are more active nowadays as comapred to those affiliated to political parties. and those criminal gangs who may have some protection from various political parties including UML/NC/RaPraPa/Maoists are criminal only.
Problem of extorting from those families whose family members are residing abroad was mainly in hilly regions I guess. Because I know I myself or several of my friends and cousins living abroad are from Kathmandu and/or Bhitri Madhes/Tarai and to my knowledge our families were never ever asked for any financial support by will or by force.

Baru dubeko paisa uthaune kehi upaya chha ki?
My dad lent some 4 lakhs rupees, very hard earned money, to a businessman some 10 years ago since he promised to give 24% annual interest. He kept giving the interest for first 2 years, but after that he stopped citing the problems between brothers in his family. His family is very rich and his family members' properties in Kathmandu and outside Kathmandu worth at least 25 crores rupees.
He keeps saying that he would pay the amount, but for last 8 years he has neither given the interests nor the principal amount that we lent him. It seems that his intention is not to pay back any money. What should we do?

Thanks all for sharing your experiences and suggestions. The experience from No Quiero Bro is terrifying me even more. All the five members of our family living abrad are going to Nepal this week, as we havent met eachother together for more than one decade. I guess, it wasnt a wise idea to do so. But the joy of meeting all family after 11 years dragged us. Plus i got my sisters wedding too.... I hop we wont be targetting by any groups for anything and will try to keep very low profile as possible...

gyanguru. Dont be scared. The incidence with my uncle-aunt was outside kathmandu. If you guys keep low profile it should be ok. So many people from overseas go to nepal. There is no need to worry. I believe Kathmandu should be relatively safe.
