Hello folks,

I am thinking about going home for Dashain and get my H1 stamped there. I have a couple of questions -

1. Is it safe to get H1 stamped in Nepal?
2. How long does it take to get the VISA stamped? from the date of application submitted to the date of VISA issuance?

Your help is appreciated in advance.

1. I did mine in Nepal 3 months ago. The visa consular asked me two simple questions. He asked me what I was doing after I graduated and before I got my H1. I told him that I was on my practical training duh'... and the other question - I don't even remember, it was something stupid. He didn't even look at my documentation very well, and then asked me to pick up my passport tomorrow. To answer your question, IT IS VERY SAFE.

2. After you pay the visa fee at the Nabil Bank (Rs 14xx), they will give you an interview date. It takes a week from the day you deposit the money.

The process at the Department of Labor(Shram Bivag) in Nepal takes a week. It was pretty complicated for me. A friend of mine knew it, so he helped me out with it. Thanks god! Talk to someone from a 'manpower company' in Nepal, they will do it for you for Rs 1000-2000.

Good Luck!

It is very safe as emerald010 said. They don't even look at you while questioning. They also asked me two unrelated questions. Thats it. For me, they gave me interview date after 2 weeks.

For that SHRAM BIBHAG thing, I gave broker Rs5000 and got stamp in 5 hrs. You will find a lot of brokers waiting people like us at shram bibhag gate. They will prepare all documents for you. You just need to give them copies of your Passport, visa, H1 petition and employer's letter that includes your salary and work hours. But don't leave your original passport with them. Give them @ the end for stamp.

i agree with emerald and mno, it is very very safe.  they asked me just one question, what kind of work i do in my company?  even before i replied he had already started tearing that slip  for which they give to all the successful candidate to come back again tomorrow to collect visa.  i always read threads about going to canada or mexico, but trust me, i think best option is Nepal as we will have get time to spend with our loved one as well.

I got mine in January. I had set up the interview date by emailing them, so I did not have to wait long to get the interview. However, after the interview they took 3 weeks to grant me the visa stating “you case is still being reviewed - status is pending" .. this was partly due to the holiday season and the embassy being closed. But mainly I found out that it was because of the type of industry I was in. If you are in anything like, pharmaceutical, aviation, state employed or anything critical they take longer time in verifying your background so be prepared for a possible delay if you are working in such sensitive industry.

ya , the question were very lame, the guy was looking at my diploma and at the same time asking me where i got my degree from ??

P.S. When you make your employment letter, make sure that you disclose 40 HOURS PER WEEK (FULL TIME). The DoL will give you hard time if you do not have that information in the letter. It is better if you also put WORKING 5 DAYS  A WEEK.

gazabko_manche,

I am going home for Dashain, can I email the embassy to setup the interview. If the answer is yes, then what is the email address for the contact person at the embassy? What else do I need to do?
