It's been almost 2 months since I filed my US citizenship application. Other people who've applied to the same center (St Albans, Vermont) have already been sent a notice of receipt of application from USCIS. Although I did get confirmation of package delivery from the USPS (I included delivery confirmation), I have not heard back from USCIS saying that they've recieved my application and are processing it. I was wondering if anyone knows how long it typically takes for me to get the receipt confirmation. Should I be concerned, and is there any way for me to obtain the receipt number, so that I can check the status of my application online. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Hi Casper, when I applied for US citizenship, it took about a month to get receipt from DHS. You should receive receipt from DHS to make sure that it is being processed. It took about 3 moths from the filing date for fingerprint, and 6 months for interview. But after interview, it took 5 month for oath ceremony because male gets extensive background check than female. It took total of 11 months for the whole process. Usually it takes less than that. Finally, it is over and now I am a US Citizen, thanks to America. God bless America!

CASPER: When you mailed out your application along with the required fee, you must have included the bank check. Go to your bank and see the back of the check, where they will have their receipt number. Once you find the 13 digit number, go to USCIS website, and query against it. If you find it, then it should be in the process.

Thanks neptex, hajambhayena and indiragandhi for responding. btw, did you send your application to the Vermont center also? I guess the bank check would have been a good idea, but I sent a bank draft instead (dont ask me why!). Have any of you tried calling the hotline (1-800-375-5283)? The website says that case info may not be obtained by calling the hotline, so I am wondering what other options I may have. From what I hear, the processing is taking a bit longer this year. Hopefully things will speed up next year as the election approaches.

I don't know where you are..just check your local ins office"s processing time and you will get approximate time to get the citizenship. Say like this if your local office have 6months then you will get interview date letter after 4-5months.

To all of you who are now US citizens..how long ago did you first enter US? Did you enter as F-1 student? 10 years ago? 20 years? or are you DV lottery recipients? Just curious.
