Anything with juice that can act as electrolyte can be used to produce electric current using two electrodes with significant electronegativity difference to act as cathode and anode. You dont need potato, even salt water can produce electricity. However these are not feasible options compared to lead acid or other popular form of electrochemical cells. It would take tons of potatoes and way too many electrodes to do sth that a regular lead acid cell will do and will be hundreds (if not thousands) of times more expensive that way. But I will not be surprised if these things make into the headline news in Nepal, since someone making RC model aircrafts, electric three wheeler can be a big news for the news reporters, given how much is their exposure to the technical world.
And it seems like these media guys are so fond of using the word "Aawishkar". Seems like they do not understand the meaning of that word or they do not do any research before calling sth a new "aawishkar" or perhaps they do not have access to internet or perhaps are unable to use internet due to load shedding.
