nothing u must have experience.... or take training and make changes to ur resume. If you are looking for full time then that must be easy but if u r looking for contract then u need to make changes to ur resume.
BetterNepal, at this point, I'm not quite sure on what I should or want to do.
I don't need to worry about maintaining my status and while going to Nepal for 2-3 months has been my main interest, I'm also thinking about Grad School or pursuing a career. But then again, I haven't applied to a single job ( salaried one ) ever since I graduated last May. I just moved to California and I'm starting to think whether I should really start my job hunt...or take it easy until I go visit Kathmandu. The reason why I've delayed my job hunt is pretty simple - If I found a job, my plans of spending 3 months in Kathmandu will be flushed outta toilet.
I'd definitely be interested in taking some classes or trainings per se at this moment, I think.
(If I were you then I would do as following;) I would suggest after coming from Nepal, if u r looking for IT job then you should start looking training ASAP and then look for job when u come .
If you are looking for job based on ur background then u need to find what job is available in market and prepare your self for it. ( like using quick book and other tools and finance work - u must look like u have few years of experience while giving ur interview)
You can get good (start up )office job 9-5 ( 1000-2000 monthly ) for an accounting position or IT recruting in California.
But Please take time and focus on ur studies or traning that is very important ... If you work hard you will get a job what ever the market condition is.
The thing about IT is, I don't know much about it. I had to take a class that taught me the fundamentals of Microsoft Office but beyond that, I have no knowledge regarding programming, Java and what not.
Another problem is, I can't really decide on what I should do after returning back from Nepal. I mean, I wonder if I should go for MBA ( but then again, many have suggested that MBA degree without a decent job experience isn't that significant ) or Masters in Financial Management or do something else.....
If I had to worry about maintaining my status, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have this sort of hectic time to decide on what I would be doing later this year....
If somebody really wants BSA, he doesnt have to run to Sajha to find one. He can find zellions of BAs at monster, careerbuilder and so on. This guy just wants to get a nicely written resume so that the can put his name and submit it ............
I would say u need to spend some time and do some research and find out and talk with people in similar job profile and get idea.
Spend time now do not think you will come from nepal and do it ..... u need to take risk to get any job profile when u get ( i mean 9-5 office job ) .. I have been changing my domian in past few years and I talked with different people and found out which job has good job opening for coming years and so...
First I have a job second am not a BSA or not looking for BSA position. I have the best job profile high billing rate. I do not have to look for project.I have good network and my reference call me up for any new project . The one I posted is from onplansoultion company (Top Oracle consulting company in Washington state).
What else you need ?
Send me ur resume and If i donot get your interview then u can make such comments. Why r u thinking negative?
you said u r from a financial background, and as per ur comments I think you want to work as a Business Analyst, so just to let you know, there are some BAs who will work as a financial analyst or financial business analyst,, and working as a BA, it is not necessary for you to know different technical terms..or languages like java, c# etc...because there are developers who work on these things,,
as a business analyst what u need to focus on is: you should be able to communicate the ideas of business or your client to the developer...and to communicate those ideas you create a flowchart showing how the process should flow...and i think you know how to create a flow chart,,,(it is more than just creating a flow chart but everything that u create will be based on the concepts of flowchart)
and for financial business analyst, the main thing you need to know is all about some financial terms like debt ratio or whatever,,,
I completed my Masters' btw i need to ask you something,,can you please tell me what software does a bank use to create an online statements? or what are the s/w that bank uses?
It depends on bank and which technologies(like java or .net etc) they are using to build there application.
Depends on technologies and the application will also be different based on bank's business process.
Now I see what you are saying. Like in nepal bank using (Pumari)one software, but I think in US every Bank have there own application which is based on there business process. ( on requirement ). ( I nepal bank can not spend hugh amount to build so they buy software) not sure but that is my view.
Lets take on eg.- if u see citi bank url -- https://online.citibank.com/US/JPS/portal/Index.do this is Java/JSP using struts frame work. (Correct me if I am worng Java experts )
