It's obvious - PCs.

The internet and all other mobile gadgets like cell phones wouldn't be possible without the concept of a personal computer for the masses. It also accelerated the development of smaller and smaller Integrated Circuits, without which smaller gadgets like cell phones and IPods wouldn't exist.

Cell Phones sound chic, but it's hardly the most important.

For ME, the breakthroughs are as follows for each field (personal opinions may vary):

In technology: cable TV and the Laptop
In finance: The Black-Scholes model
In music: Rap and Hip Hop
In fashion: Air Force 1s
And In sports: NBA (Nepal basketball Association)!!
