I heard that the H1B general quota is getting completly filled up as early as April 1st (the first day of official filing). And the Masters quota in few weeks. Is it a myth or true? Anybody has any idea?

I am sure this is not true. How can they determine if the quota is filled up when the filing hasn't even started yet. Who provided this information to you?

Well due to the enormous number of petitions filed by the consultancies it is blowing in the air that USCIS will receive 60k+ petitions in the first day.

If that's the case, I am sure that these petitions are for people who are not even in the US but are currently located in India.

Last year the H1B Visa last application date for the Master's was available through July 26th. However, this year, with over 200K applications filed within April 3rd, it is highly unlikely to be available even for thouse with Master's or higher degree from US Universities.

H1-B Cap: 65,000 Set aside for Chile & Singapore: 6,800 USA Masters degree: 20,000 Recent News: http://www.uscis.gov/files/pressrelease/H1BFY08Cap040307.pdf Over 150,000 applications received on April 2 & 3. If your application reached on April 4, then it will be returned back. Undergrad students have 40% chance of getting their H1-B approved for FY 2008 since computer is now going to select randomly. USA Masters degree students, you have better chance.

The quota is full now. It was more than 150,000 applicants till Aprl 2nd. They have noticed that they would do raffle for the applicants in April 3 & 4 and all applications would be rejected after filed on 4th April. Thats a bitter truth!

Seems to me H1-B is easy way to make money to Indian IT consulting Firm. Who knows how much money Indian IT Firm asking with people who live in India (there are lots of people who can pay easily 4-5 lakhs to get H1B visa to US). I believe they are miss using H-1 B quotas and programs. Sagun

The Govt. should get rid of H1-B in my opinion. Some employers have been grossly mis-using this to only make money and buy expensive assets in India. Screw bringing qualified folks from India. I know how they are qualified. You give someone with Bachelors degree in India hardcore 3-6 month training in a particular tool, database, language....of course that person will be confident and comfortable....they show 2-5 years experience working for some companies in India and then some Indian consulting firm brings them to USA on H1-B. I wish Congress passed some law limiting H1-B quota by country. It is totally unfair for the rest of folks besides Indians, who spend so much money & hardwork in getting a US undergrad & masters degree.

If a majority of these applications were from people in US these applications would not show up next year as well,,because their OPT would be over or they wud be up for some higher degree by next year,,and in case they cannot apply for H!B next year..So the only possibility is that most of these applications are from people who are still in india and represented by some sh*t IT consultants here..and if they dont make it this year they will show up next year as well. and same situation for rest of us here,,so I guess it's high time that we do sth to avoid this unfair situation atleast for those who will be filing next year
