Hi I'm new to sajha, just found out recently. I'm an undergraduate triple majoring in Physics, Mathematics and Economics. I'm in a big delimma recently and would kindly request anyone out there to please help me. I'm supposed to pay $10000 to my college for upcoming semester. I have three research project lined up in "Theoretical Cosmo particle Physics", "Experimental Neuro Physics" and "Economic warfare" for upcoming semester but if I'm not able to clear my dues, I'll have to drop out of college and be out of status in other words live illegally in United States. I do not want to be out of status and complete my research project and my education in time. So I kindly request if there's any Nepalese out there who would be willing to co-sign a student loan about $6000, I'd be more than greatful to him/her. I do not have any relative who's a PR or green card holder in US so I ask if there's someone out there to help me. I tried everything with my school, went to financial aid office couple of times and requested. They were able increase my scholarship but only $2000 per year and I ended up paying $10000. I even asked my professors and advisors to increase the scholarship but they weren't able to help me because due to economic situation they didn't have much departmental endowment this year for scholarship to cover it. I worked over summer but was only able to save $1000 which is not enough to cover the dues. I've been asking my parents to help but my dad had surgery in 2010 and wasn;t able to work and save much, so I thought I'd not bother my parents anymore after looking at the situation of my house. I even applied for various scholarship through private scholarship website but wasn't able to get any. I have a 3.5 GPA and I know my research will amount to something great. If I drop out of school right now I fear that I'll never be able to complete my research or even forget about that completely. You guys might say why don't you transfer but the thing is I won't be able to do because I've got pending balance from last semester and my university is not releasing my transcript unless if I clear that pending $6000 balance. Or else I wouldn't bother even posting this. So I kindly request if any one serious out there to help me continue my education and research or provide me with any other available option or information (like if ANA will be able to help???) please do so. Please don't mock me as and give me honest opinion as a Nepali to another Nepali in trouble. If you are serious I'll disclose my information to you through private email. Thank you Sincerely Grateful Dead

Man, why you are making so hard yourself mentioning three majors. Why you need three majors? Even you have any number of majors, life is still not easy after graduation. I mean, first try to be make ease. Regarding money and loan, it will be difficult from Sajha because basically they all are students and many are in your situation. So my advice is try to make ease yourself, take as less course as you can so that you have to pay less, try to use credit card, any thing that helps you out at this moment.

Did you explore your option of economic hardship? That will allow you to work outside during semester. Owing to your family surgery back home, you may be able to prove your economic hardship. Further, that would allow you to be on reduced course work on upcoming semester. Also, I heard people are saving more than 5000 $ easily during summer. I doubt anyone here are willing to be your cosigner for the student loan.

Being realistic, I don't think anyone reading your appeal would be willing to co-sign a loan with a guarantee of your merits and background. I don't question the validity of your facts, but the matter is of trust. So here is my suggestion (another option), try visiting churches and social organizations around your area. At times if you are lucky, may be your can find a generous donor or may be someone willing to co-sign your loan. Sometimes they do have funds allocated to help in such situation. A friend of mine had their loan co-signed by their host parents. When I struggled financially, after all attempts I directly made an appointment with the vice chancellor of my college (it's a pretty big college with 10,000+ students) and bugged him for financial assistance. It worked. I was able to get an additional $2000 on student scholarship... Hopefully this helps.

Thank you knockknock for your info. I'll look into these options as well. And for now can anyone one tell me how to delete this thread because I don't want to create anymore fuss in this thread.
