I cannot connect to the internet after the system recovery.....any idea pls?? drivers are all installed also no yellow flags in the device manager and internet connectivity is also good, i checked it with the other laptop, i also ran a ping on command prompt it doesn't show any connection to the router ......it is a Dell Inspiron 1420 on vista 32 bit......my warranty just expired and dell is asking $240 to fix it........pls help !!!!
try restoring ur system again back to the day it was working fine. if this doesnt work, i suggest u to back up ur data and format ur hard drive. i know it is little time consuming, but worthwhile then $ 240. oh and btw did u try 192.168.1.1 process yet??
i did the system restore thru CD provided from Dell not from the hard disk so it's pretty much like formatting, everything is gone and it's like new except for this internet and yes i also tried 192.168.1.1.........god knows what happened i'm still working on it.......been 6 hrs.. F....k !!
If its about recovery u may not have installed all the required drivers from the dvd. Just make sure u have installed the required drivers for the wireless internet connection. With Dell laptops u need to install the drivers manually from the dvd.
I am sure you had checked the Network connection and it would say "connected" if not there is a problem. And also the internet option on control panel, LAN setting must be checked automatic.
Sometime if you discontinue the Ethernet driver and restart , if will update the Ethernet driver and may connect to internet. Sometime, I clicked to auto-update to run the internet, it may connect to Internet.
My brother had a same problem. Device manager showed that all drivers are installed and there was no yellow flag but yet the internet wasn't working. But he downloaded new driver from dell's website for his laptop model and installed that one then the internet started working. Give this a try, this may help you too.
I'm also using Inspiron 1420. As bange bro suggested, try to use internet by pluggin in the cable. Also, I guess if you upgrade your driver for the wireless device from Dell's site, your problem will be fixed. Note that all the drivers will not installed when you install Vista from the CD/DVD provided by Dell.
first to check if the computer is connect to the router or not.
if you are using ethernet wire then you will have to reset the router by pushing the reset button on your router.wait for 15 to 30 mins.also reset your dsl modem which you have to do first before resetting router.this is under all drivers installed condition.while the modem and router is resetting shut down your laptop and start after like 30 mins.enjoy!
some of you guys are giving him ridiculous suggestions. if you reset the router you will lose all settings, you cannot restore as its a newly formatted computer. Like someone suggested use hard wire to get connected then update driver for the wireless nic besides that if your physical nic is not talking you gotta find another computer get the latest driver from dell and update it. No need to reformat again as you will come across the same issue. Also you can try to update your OS....some issue might be resolved....
Resetting the router will reset the ipaddress in computer if the ip address is assigned by DHCP. as mentioned " couldn't connect to the router" the situation could be not getting ip address from router.by resetting the router resets the ip address for the laptop nic card too which will solve the ip problem.
Tech ur worng, resetting ip on router will not reset ip on the computer/nic. IP has to be refreshed on the computer or until the lease expires or hard reboot required.
