Hey Guys
Dallas Mavericks are on their second hot run of a winning streak of 10 runs or more.
They have the best record in the NBA right now but are they the best team and can they go on to win the championship that they dearly missed last season after having it in their grasp?

Well I am a Mavs fan and i think that they are the best team and will win the coveted title this year.

And they have been winning matches without Dirk proving that they are not a 'one man' team but a team of performers.

What do you guys have to say?

I STARTED THIS POST WEN DALLAS LOOKED INVINCIBLE BUT NOW THEY ARE IN THE VERGE OF MAKIN AN INFAMOUS HISTORY BY BEING ONE OF THREE EIGHTH SEEDED TEAMS TO BOW OUT IN THE 1ST RND PLAYOFFS.

WEN IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THEY WOULD BE PLAYING THE EIGHTH SEEDED WARRIORS, EVERYONE KNEW THAT IT WAS'NT GOING TO BE A STROLL IN THE PARK(LIKE LAST YEAR WEN GRIZZLIES GOT WHITEWASHED) FOR THE MAVS TO REACH THE CONF SEMIS. EVERYONE WAS AWARE THAT GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS WOULD GIVE MAVS A FIGHT, FRANKLY GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS WERE THE LAST TEAM WE AS FANS WANTED MAVS TO GO THRU IN THE 1ST RND, SPECIALLY CONSIDERING OUR 5 GAME DROUGHT. BUT I DUNNO EXACTLY IF AVERY JOHNSON THOUGHT THE SAME WAY AS HE DID NOT EVEN TRY TO AVOID IT AS HE PLAYED A SECOND STRING SQUAD AGAINST THEM IN MAV'S PENULTIMATE GAME

WEN THE PLAYOFFS STARTED WE WERE INTRESTED TO WATCH SEE MAVS PLAY NOT REALLY WORRIED, AT THE MAXIMUM WE THOUGHT WE WOULD CLOSE OUT WARRIORS IN 6 GAMES. NOW SEE WHERE WE ARE NOW .NO MAVERICK COULD HAVE EVER IMAGINED IN THE REGULAR SEASON THAT 10 DAYS INTO THE PLAYOFFS, HAVING PLAYED JUST 4 GAMES, WE WOUD BE AT THE RISK OF GETTING ELIMINATED AT OUR VERY OWN AMERICAN AIRLINES. BUT REALITY HAS STRUCK, I'D BE LYING IF SAID I WAS'NT TENSE, WORRIED.

BUT AGAIN IF GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS CAN BELEIVE WE CAN TOO! WE WILL BE DISCOURAGED BY THINKING THAT VERY FEW TEAMS MAKE IT AFTER GOING DOWN3-1..BUT WILL TAKE COURAGE FROM THE FACT THAT 8 TEAMS HAVE OVERCOME THE DEFICIT AND WE COULD VERY WELL BE THE 9TH

COME 8:40 THIS EVENING I WILL SATART BITING MY NAILS..I HAVE EVERY REASON TO BITE ALTHOUGH THE MATCH MAY NOT BE A NAILBITER!!

GO MAVS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sahayog, if you wanna be a champion you have to be able to beat every team in the league. You can't just avoid someone because they have a good history against ur team. So i don't think we can blame Avery for not playing his guys. If there's anyone to blame it's the players for thier attitude and thier execution. mavs are a good team but i seriously think they should part ways with Dirk and also add a true point guard who can make plays unlike Terry.

Alchilagyo and with all respects to Avery ..To be a champion yu have to be tactical sometimes ..and thats where I FEEL Avery flunked

Terry may not or actually for sure is'nt the best of point guards ..but i cannot blame a point guard who did hardly get any criticism wen MAVS were on a high in regular season..and now that they are suddenly down 1-3 ..HECK its not terry's fault

The problem is with the comprehensive mentality of the team which i feel sometimes goes wayward with pressure and specially wen it comes to closing out games

every one knows the key to dallas' success is Dirk ..yeah who else ..he is a candidate if not the MVP(as talked in the media..i think it shuld go to nAash again) already...i have always seen josh to be a good starter who gets lost towards the end( more often than not)..

i was listening to ESPN radio 103.3 fm here and they were making fun of the dallas trio (howard, terry and dirk) by saying that the MVP for this series so far for DALLAS has gotta be DIOP .. all i could afford was a slick smile!!!

What did I tell ya in ma earlier post?? "If Baron Davis is outta foul trouble, then the Mavs have some serious worryin to do" and dats what happened...Damn, the guy played with a limping foot and still killed the Mavs singlehandedly (reminded me of AI back in 2001); same intensity, unstoppable, entire game players and injuries no bar to their stellar performance. BTW, I still have his college jersey I bought during a visit to UCLA back in the spring of '99...damn, who knew!!

Well, gotta give it up to the Mavs for being the best regular season team, but winning in the playoffs is what counts!!

I second DALLASCOWBOYS thought.

Big disappointment. All 67 wins in regular season went "POOF."

Good thing I stopped watching in the first quarter. If I had watched all the way to the end, probably I would have thrown something at the TV.

Still a Mavericks fan thru THICK AND THIN.

Now let's wait for the Cowboys season to start to forgot the wound that Mavericks placed in fans' heart.

Go MAVS (For next season) and Go COWBOYS for this season.

WRAPPING DALLAS MAVERICKS 2006-2007 SEASON
When the season was about to start, the buzz at least here in Dallas was, “Can the same Mavericks team who lost a bizarre NBA finals with Miami make a comeback?” Some doubted, and others were pretty sure that they would come out as tougher individuals having got the taste and experience of actually playing the Finals.

The season gets underway as they lose their first match against Spurs. Not a surprise, considering the usual rust after a break .Then, they go on to lose three more matches in the trot. No wonder, all sort of questions were being asked as the Mavericks had lost eight straight NBA games. Forget about their chances of bouncing back, many struck them off their list as possible Western Conference contenders.

However, Mavericks Coach Avery Johnson was least apprehensive. He knew his guys very well, what they were capable as a team and the body language in many of his interviews seemed astonishingly positive. After their loss with Rockets, they went on a hot winning streak of eleven, as Johnson/Cuban and team began the process of eliminating doubters.

There was no looking back after that. A championship loss was soon forgotten while Dallas’ premium basketball team kept on piling wins after wins, streaks after streaks. Power Forward Dirk Nowitzki rose to be a good leader and a serious MVP candidate. Although his statistical numbers went down (a bit), he made sure that his surrounding team mates namely Howard, Terry, Dampier, Harris and Stackhouse came out as better performers.

However, a month away from the playoffs, on March 12, they meet a familiar foe. Am I talking about Heat? Not even close. Then, it surely must be Suns! It still isn’t. For sure, it must then be Spurs. Heck no, I am talking about the Golden State Warriors. A ‘familiar foe’ because they had a winning streak of three against the Mavericks that stretched back to the previous season and also because of the feud between Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Warriors coach Don Nelson.( ex Mavs coach before Johnson).

Personally, I see this game which Mavericks eventually go on to lose by a margin of 17 as the turning point in their regular season which otherwise looked flawless. Soon after this loss Maverick’s does something that they had not done for quite sometime. They lose a match in the American Airlines Center after a span as long as 96 days and stretching 25 games. This time it is Phoenix Suns that nails them in a game difficult to forget; a double over time thriller decided by just two points.

After that Mavericks win nine straight again. But I dare say that the manner in which they won these games was highly unconvincing and most of them were very close games that could go either way. These wins were followed by ten very bad games which saw them win just six.

Most would argue saying that Mavs lost these because of their need to give their primary players rest. But I see these ten games as another turn in the wrong direction. I am incredibly critical of Avery’s decision to actually rest stars heading towards injury. He did not want to take chances with his major players headed to the playoffs but in the meantime Dallas Mavericks was slowly losing confidence and team chemistry which is quintessential headed into the playoffs. On the other hand number two seed Phoenix Suns played their full squad every match and they carried their momentum into the playoffs.

When playing Golden State in the penultimate game of the series in Oakland, Avery should have played the full squad so that they would gain valuable road practice, an opportunity to get momentum with a team(lost 4 consecutive then) they could possibly be meeting in the playoffs or eliminating Warriors to earn an easier opponent as LA Clippers. But that did not happen as Dirk, Howard, Dampier and Stackhouse did show up in Oracle Arena but as a mere spectator dressed in cool suits that would could make Brad Pitt proud or Kate Hudson leave Owen Wilson. Meanwhile, Mavericks predictably were hammered at all ends throughout the match and lost by 29 points. That was not at all an ideal way to lose to a team which they would meet in the First round itself.

As expected when the playoff started the Mavericks top players, instead of getting fresh after their “rest” seemed rusty and slow. They hardly looked like the team that lost just 15 games in a period of 5 months. On their very own AA Center they somehow did lose the match comprehensively through Baron Davis hands. Home court advantage lost and it was highly unlikely that a city that saw playoff basketball return to their soil after 13 years would let Johnson’s team sneak away with a victory. Mavericks got away with another home loss as Warriors lost their cool but as expected Warriors held serve to come as close as a game to give the number one seed an early exit.

Game 5 in Dallas saw Mavericks blow out a 21 point lead to a 9 point deficit with just 3 minutes remaining in the game clock. Dirk Nowitzki spearheaded a comeback that saved them from consecutive home court exits in playoffs and were headed to Golden State for the 6th game. However, Mavericks and Dirk Nowitzki (8 points) choked in the third quarter in a 24-3 run rallied by Stephen Jackson’s 13 consecutive points to unofficially seal the deal at the end of the 3rd quarter itself. Although this loss did not do Mavericks any good they infamously did at least manage to put their franchise name in history books for being the first 1st seeded team since the 7 series playoff started to lose a first round playoff match-up with the 8th seeded team.

I along with so many Maverick and NBA fans will always remember 2006-2007 as an NBA season wherein a team that lost first four games season finds a way to win 67 games and then lose its first round series. I will also not forget how Johnson’s tactics in final few matches of the regular season and Dirk’s fall in the playoffs wasted a 67-15 regular season.

I'll be happy if Dallas even goes to play-off this year! I have zilch expectation from the team after its last year's embarrassing loss to Warriors.

That doesn't matter! If you cannot perform in the play-offs, no records of a regular season matter. Having said that, I'm still a huge mavericks and Dirk fan.

P.S--->No matter how retarded Dirk plays, I just love him.

Mavericks' fans know more than anyone else's how useless regular season records can be........ That being said, I do not see any team coming close in getting the first seed in the WC other than the Mavs

Sahayog, hate to say this but for the past few years, the Mavs are the best...rather, the best chokers!!  Hope they can deliver this year without choking against Boston in the Finals.

I think they have all the except center to win it all. I still like the mavs over boston in game 7 in final. Boston is just 3 man show if one gets hurt or gets tired playing all the minutes they will not make it to the final. They r getting old KG, Allen and Pierce all r over 30. about Suns they do not have enough coz NAsh is too white and getting too old without Nash they r not a team to watch. AS for the Sprus they can't match angainst BIg D. For golden state they will miss playoff this year coz as for the playoff- mavs, spurs, rockets, jazz, denver, suns, hornets, and I still think Kobe will take them to playoff so there is no place for GS to be in playoff. and I hope refree will make it One man show AS D wade in 50 final coz whenever U touch him there was a foul so they won't do that again. and David sterns will not have any choice except to watch mavs wining it all and Cuban his Biggest rivles, receving the Diamond Ring. I think coz of David mavs lost to the One man show HEat coz he don't like the mavs espacially Cuban.

Go mavs .

Seeing the last few games specially the ones against Memphis, Toronto and Houston, I think Dallas is gonna win it all this year. Last year Dallas rolled in the regular season but one noticeable thing was that they hardly won close games. But this year so far has been a different story. Moreover, Dirk's load is relieved by players like Howard and Harris who have shown great maturity this year.

And the real Boston Celtics will be revealed only after they have played more than ten matches against Western Conference teams.
