I am looking for a Immigration attorney so hoping to get some suggestion for good attorneys. Prefer non-indians as I have not had good experience with them especially Sheela Murthy from Maryland - went to get paid consultation and her answers were very negative and i came out without any suggestion - wasted my money and time visiting her. would appreciate if you can referred me to some good attorneys.

You might want to contact Mr. Subedi (of Radio Dovaan). I think he had a Nepali immigration attorney on one of his shows... I remember reading his thread about it...

I'm not suggesting that the attorney is good (or bad), but just the fact he's Nepali may be of some comfort to you... I don't know.

Good luck.

Lily,

You can also call the Local Bar Association either of your county or the State and ask for a referral for an Immigration Attorney--or, you could try using the web site.

Secondly, depending on your case and your income level, there may be local non-profit organizations that have attorney's on staff to provide free or what they call "graduated income" help i.e...you get charged based on your income if you fall within a maximum annual income cap.

Another thing to do is irrespective of any attorney that you find, do not hire them until you check their background record with the Bar Association. Every State Bar website has an option allowing you to enter the attorney's name and that will let you know if there have been any suspensions, public censures etc for bad work or bad conduct on the part of the attorney.

Hope that helps.

You might want to do some research before you sign on with any lawyer, maybe a background check would in order. Visit American Bar Association's website: www.abanet.org and be sure to find out if the lawyer you have in mind is registered and licensed.
