Very interesting. Most of us weren't even born when Pluto was discovered in 1930. Pluto is automatically disqualified because its oblong orbit overlaps with Neptune's. Instead, it will be reclassified in a new category of "dwarf planets," similar to what long have been termed "minor planets." The definition also lays out a third class of lesser objects that orbit the sun — "small solar system bodies," a term that will apply to numerous asteroids, comets and other natural satellites. I am thinking- how many textbooks need to be updated due to this downsizing decision.

The decision on Pluto losing planet status at a conference of 2,500 astronomers from 75 countries was a dramatic shift from just a week ago, when the group's leaders floated a proposal that would have reaffirmed Pluto's planetary status and made planets of its largest moon and two other objects. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/world/AP-Planet-Mutiny.html

Camo, I am no expert in this. But, i do remember purohit baje doing nawagraha puja. in the center is surya and around him/it are eight grahas i guess. So, including sun there are nine grahas in our solar system. This is just my logic. So ...i dont know.:)...gufai ta ho ni.

origin of astrology..interesting.. The origins of much of astrology that would later develop in Asia, Europe and the Middle East are found among the ancient Babylonians and their system of celestial omens that began to be compiled around the middle of the 2nd millennium BCE. This system of celestial omens later spread either directly or indirectly through the Babylonians to other areas such as India, China and Greece where it merged with pre-existing indigenous forms of astrology. This Babylonian astrology came to Greece initially as early as the middle of the 4th century BCE, and then around the late 2nd or early 1st century BCE after the Alexandrian conquests, this Babylonian astrology was mixed with the Egyptian tradition of Decanic astrology to create Horoscopic astrology. This new form of astrology, which appears to have originated in Alexandrian Egypt, quickly spread across the ancient world into Europe, the Middle East and India. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrology

Well...The astrology will never be affected even if there were some contributions by Pluto itself. Pluto is still there, where it was for centuries. All these guys have done is taken the pluto out of the Planet list. It will not change any effect of pluto on other planets, it will not change its path of rotation, magnetic effect, gravitational forces etc. So how will it affect the astrology. The only thing that will change is Text book. People will not read Pluto as a planet. Tyatti ta ho ni, haina ra??
