Temperature: approx. 30 - 80 degress (There won't be very many days in winter when the temp is around 30) Rent : 1 bedroom - $800 - 1600 0r more (depends on where n how u wanna live) Transportation - pretty good- metro n buses everywhere but if u r living around the suburbs u might need a car.. not necessary though.. buses go almost everywhere)!! Keep in mind the HORRIBLE RUSH HOUR (avoid driving on 395, 495 & 66 during rush hr...its a nightmare) People : haha... funny part.. dunno where u r living now but over here u"ll see more colored ppl than white... every other person is either spanish, asians or Indians..Apart from ethnicity, typical city life... busy ppl...mean n reckless drivers... be careful while driving...!! Food: whatever u want... its there!!!! From Indian dhabas to high class dining...(depends on how much u wanna spend). If you are thinking about cooking ... no worries indian grocery stores and korean markets have everything u want (nepali style food) This is just a summary.. i can go on n on.... type garnu aalchi lagyo... but all I wanna say is tht living is pretty expensive compared to other cities but its a nice place...I LOVE this place!!!

DC area = nice, if yo end up finding a nice apartments, unless if you live in DC, try to avoid ghettos :P Life is same, there is no difference from living here or living in New York. Too much traffic jams and too much confusion. Weather=Cold ma snow parcha, sometimes it goes crazy and dumps 1-2ft, sometimes all you see in winter could be drizzles or flakes. Summer ma goes to 80-85. Hot as hell, and HUMID as SHIT! People are...um..mostly non whites. If you live in DC, you will probably see more black. and if you are in Arlington, you will probably see more spanish and indians like dreamz said. Foods=From Sucky ass nepali resturant that sucks on food and service to some cheap indian foods to spanish to italian to whatever you like...we have it. Transportation = No problemo. Best transportation i've known so far. Metro Buses go almost every corner in DC to VA to MD. Metro Train goes from New Carrolton(MD) to Springfield (VA) to Vienna(VA) to kata kata...dherai thau jancha! ;p And even if you don't live in DC najikai, the fairfax county or arlington county have their own transportation services. Saala, DC Metro area is the best place to live.

where are u movin from? if your movin from NY or Boston or Chicago LA and some big cities like that, u might not like it much.. living std is expensive but u can crash out in the streets.... no one really cares... u can maybe crash under 14th street bridge... if u wanna stay close to happenning area try lookin around george town...it totally depends on where u commin from... if ur comming from WV or ID or some hill-billy town, u might not be able to live around as lifes lot more faster than those mentioned areas.... if you wanna try out first maybe u can be dalli's good frien and ask her if u can crash at her place... lol.. good luck!!

I love this area. I've been living here for quite sometime and I enjoy pretty much everything that goes around here: 270, 495 & 95 bumper-to-bumper traffic, frequent shootings, abundant ghetto neighborhoods, driving miles to find a parking space in DC, being recognized as a Hispanic every now and then, more Nepalese Associations than the US has in DC, more ethnical and cultural segregation than in Nepal, frequent sightings of Nepalese Celebrities working in gas stations and Subways, overwhelmingly increasing Nepalese Green card Lottery winners community with skill and language deficiency, and not to mention the peaceful occasional sniper shootings. The list could have gone on and on. I didn’t want you to jump right out of your seat and fly down to DC right away. In regards to transportation, it could be better depending on what kind of vehicle you own. More luxurious the vehicle is, more enjoyable the ride becomes being stuck in the middle of rush hour traffic. Weather is amazing; it gets hotter than Nepalgunj in summer and the winter could be equally fascinating with more snow accumulating than in Everest Base Camp. Besides all these thrillers, miraculously, the closest beach, Ocean City, is only three and half hours drive. I’m not sure what other states have honor to offer Nepalese food, but DC certainly fulfills the craving of true Nepalese people when it comes to food. Mt. Everest Restaurant, located at the heart of DC downtown, can be a good place to hang out if you were a frequent visitor to “Sauni ko bhatti pasal†in Nepal. You will be pleased with chhoyela, kachela, sadheko bhatmas, beer, chhyanag, delicious mo:mo, khasi ko masu and so on. The only nightmare could be finding a parking space near the restaurant. Or, you can drive down to Baltimore to experience the well-decorated and fancy looking “Kumari Restaurantâ€. If you want to cook yourself, there are plenty of Indian and Asian groceries. You will be able to buy pretty much everything that you can think of. Living cost, hah? It all depends on your living style. I’ve seen people spending less than $500 for the whole family, of course, then you have to share your apartment with other family to people making their living by spending $1,500 on the apartment itself, which I never understood. Isn’t it better to buy a home or at least a condo for that renting price? DC has a lot of things to offer for entertainments. Night life is awesome. Plenty of bars, clubs, and great restaurants in DC. If you are one of the kinds, you might as well enjoy hanging out on 14th street as well. No matter what DC has to offer and what it is, I love this place. Just like 1974 AD says “Je Bhana, Jasho Gara, Jata sukai lai jau malai, you man to mero DC mai chhaâ€.

It all depends on where are you working and how much you are making. If you have a nice job with some good company that yea it is a good place to live. DC was voted the best city to live for single people on 2004. It has some nice bars, good transporation and ohh yea lots and lots of asian food market. You will find a huge number of dv winner nepali family too. However if you are planning to work on 7-11 or resturant than it is not a good city. It is very expensive to live. A single bedroom appt cost more that $1000/month. Buying a house??? very very expensive. One of the worst city traffic wise too. I lived at DC metro area for 6 years and my company moved me here to midwest state. I'm really happy here. I didn't got that much of a raise for moving but compare to DC I feel like I'm making twice here.

thank you newguy007. i can tell already that this place, d.c is really a expensice place to live in. But i only need to be there for couple of years to complete my studies. So do you think that students can survive the high cost of living ordeal. That means working and going to class at the same time. For any reason do you happens to know or anybody knows any Nepali students attending universities in D.C? secondly i am single so there is less burden. hope to hear more from you guys out there

Which school are you going on? If you have nice scholorship on George Masion or George Washington than I'll say it is worth it. If you are planning to go to NOVA or Strayer than It is not worth it. There are far better school on other college town where you can survive very easily compare to DC. Since you are single you can try classified ads on local indian newspaper. Some time you find people needed for roommates or people renting basements. Good luck.
