A deligation from Nepal has been staying at the Indian Embasy in New York. Minister Durga Pokhrel and rest of the delegation have been staying at the Indian Embasy. A reliable source from the Indian Embassy was quoted as saying the Minister arrived at their door late Monday night. She was angry at the Nepalese Embasy official for not making accomodation arrangement. Therefore, she request a friend at the Indian Embasy for accomodation at the Indian Embassy which is blocks away from the United Nation Headquater. Whatever her reasons was, it a huge disgrace for our country.

This woman is Harvard educated and had she wanted to, she could have stayed here in the US and got a good job but no she instead chose to serve her country and took her 3 kids and went back home. Her husband, that same Amerikan (well he is a British and a saint), left his high paying World Bank job so that his wife could work for her country and the whole family came to live in Nepal. And also, she gives a percent of her income to NGO dealing with needy people.

There in your face!!!!! Find someone like her or shut the hell up!

म केही दिनका लागि नेपाल फर्केको थिएँ । मेरो नजिककी एउटी दिदी राज्यमन्त्री मनोनीत भएको समाचार आयो । झसङ्ग भएँ किनभने उहाँकै कारण म अमेरिकाको बासिन्दा भएको छु । उहाँ अरू कोही नभएर हाभार्ड विश्वविद्यालय, बोस्टनबाट पीएचडी गर्ने दुर्गा पोखरेल हुनुहुन्छ । उहाँ १७ वर्ष अमेरिका बसेर नेपाल र्फकनुभएको हो । उहाँ जतिखेर अमेरिका आउनुहुन्छ हामी साथै हुन्छौं । म आफूलाई उहाँको नजिकको माइती नै ठान्छु । र उहाँ पनि म र मेरो परिवारप्रति त्यतिकै माया गर्नुहुन्छ ।
हाम्रो राजनीतिक धारणा भने राजा वीरेन्द्रको बंशनाश भएदेखि भिन्न हुँदै गयो । बेला-बेला उहाँ अमेरिका आउँदै गर्नुहुन्थ्यो र हामीबीच नेपालको राजनीतिक स्थायित्वबारे निकै बहस हुन्थ्यो । पछिल्लोपल्ट उहाँ अमेरिका आउँदा मैले उहाँलाई 'तपाईं नेपाली कांग्रेसको राजनीतिक प्रतिष्ठा बनाइसकेको व्यक्ति, यत्रो प्रजातान्त्रिक मुलुकबाट पीएचडी गर्नुभएको तपाईंले राजाको प्रतिगमनलाई जय गरेर हिँडेको पटक्कै सुहाएन' भनेर बारम्बार भनेँ ।

उहाँले 'हुन्छ, म देशका लागि केही गर्छु' भन्नुभएको थियो । म अमेरिकाबाट नेपाल पुगेको केही दिनपछि उहाँले सायद आफू एकल अध्यक्ष भएको एक नेपाली कांग्रेस -राष्ट्रवादी) नाम झुन्ड्याएर पार्टी खोल्नुभएछ । कांग्रेसका मार्सलजुलुम शाक्य, ढुण्डीराज शास्त्री खै केके नामका व्यक्तिको नाम राख्नुभएको रहेछ, पछि उनीहरूले त्यो पार्टीसँग केही सम्बन्ध छैन भनेर वक्तव्य निकालेपछि थाहा भयो क-कसको नाममा उहाँले सौदाबाजी गर्नुभएछ । त्यो पार्टी खोलेको केही दिनमै उहाँलाई राजाले राज्यमन्त्रीको टीका लगाइदिए ।

म विराटनगरबाट रोल्पा जान भनेर काठमाडौं आएकै साँझ नेपाल टेलिभिजनबाट उहाँ राज्यमन्त्रीमा नियुक्ति हुनुभएको नाम सुन्नासाथ नरमाइलो लाग्यो ।

मलाई चिन्ने जान्नेहरूले भने 'क्याहो दिदी त मन्त्री हुनुभएछ नि, ल बधाइ छ' भने । मलाई के-को बधाइ लिनुदिनु थियो र ? म परदेशमा बसेर पनि प्रतिगमनविरुद्ध निरन्तर आवाज उठाउँदै आएको मान्छे । आखिर पदकै लागि उहाँले प्रतिगमनको जय गरेको भन्ने मलाई लागेको थियो, त्यस्तै भयो पनि । उहाँको भित्री इच्छा छ 'महिला प्रधानमन्त्री' हुने, आखिर त्यो हुन नसके पनि राज्यमन्त्री नै भए पनि किन नहुने ? खुट्किला त कम्तीमा चढियो भन्ने ठानेर होला उहाँले पदलोभ देखाइहाल्नुभयो ।

उहाँ यसरी राज्यमन्त्री हुनुपछाडि अर्को कारण पनि छ । उहाँ सूचना तथा सञ्चार राज्यमन्त्री श्रीषशमशेर राणासँग लाग्छ, २०३२ सालदेखि नै अत्यन्त नजिक हुनुहुन्थ्यो । उहाँहरूले विगतमा सँगै पत्रिका समेत निकाल्नुभएको थियो । पछि दिदी नेपाली कांग्रेसको सक्रिय कार्यकर्ता हुनुभएको भए पनि श्रीष शमशेरसँग सायद त्यति टाढा हुनुभएन जस्तो लाग्छ ।

त्यही नाताले सायद राजालाई पनि 'मैले कांग्रेसको मान्छे मन्त्रीमा ल्याएँ' भन्ने पार्न राप्रपाकी नेतृ दुर्गा श्रेष्ठलाई महिलालाई हटाएर दुर्गा पोखरेललाई लगियो ।

तै पनि माओवादी अति प्रभावित मध्यपश्चिमको पहाडी क्षेत्र घुमेर फर्केपछि मैले दिदीलाई फोन गरेँ । उहाँले भनिहाल्नुभयो- 'गिरीश, तिमी मलाई गाली नगर है !' मैले उहाँलाई किन गाली गर्नु ? भीरबाट लड्नेलाई म कसरी रोक्न सक्थेँ ? प्रतिगमनमा नजानुहोस्, बरु कांग्रेसका नेताहरूसँग वैमनश्य छ भने नागरिक आन्दोलनको अग्रपंक्तिमा उभिनोस्, त्यहाँ महिलाहरूको कमी पनि छ भनेको थिएँ । तर उहाँले 'अब म दुःख गर्न, जेल जान तयार छैन, जति जानु पहिले नै गएँ, जति संघर्ष गर्नु पहिल्यै गरें' भनेकाले उहाँ त्यता जान सक्ने कुरै भएन ।

मैले उहाँलाई 'यो बेला प्रतिगमनविरुद्द लाग्नुभएन भने हिजो तपाईंले गरेको योगदानको पनि कुनै अर्थ रहने छैन र भावी पुस्ताले पनि निरंकुशताबाट मुक्ति पाउन लडिरहनुपर्नेछ' भनेको थिएँ । त्यसो त उहाँले केही वर्षअघि मलाई भन्नुभएको थियो- 'मलाई त्यही महिला आयोगको अध्यक्ष चाहिएको छ । म त्यहींँ बसेर नेपाली महिलाका लागि धेरै काम गर्छु ।'

मैले भने 'तपाईंले कुनै काम गर्नुहुन्न, पहिले मुलुकमा लोकतान्त्रिक व्यवस्था हुनुपर्छ, त्यसपछिमात्र तपाईं जनताका आवाज सही ढंगले बुझ्न सक्नुहुन्छ' भनेको थिएँ । आयोगको अध्यक्ष भएपछि उहाँमा पदमोह बढ्दै गएको देखियो । उहाँलाई नपुग्दो केही छैन । मिहनेती बेलायती श्रीमान्, हुर्किसकेका अमेरिकी तीन-तीन भाइ छोरा र आफू शुद्ध नेपाली आमा भएर राजधानीमा सभा सेमिनार र बैठक गरेर हिंड्न पुगिरहेकै थियो । मैले सोही दिनको फोनमा भनेँ- 'दिदी, नजानु थियो जानुभयो, अब राम्रो काम गरेर केही देखाउन सक्नुहुन्न, समाजमा भएको तपाईंको प्रतिष्ठा पनि गुमाउनुभयो, अब यति हो धेरै नराम्रो काम नगर्नु, अरू के भनौं ?'

मलाई थाहा छ, २०३६ सालको बहुदल र निर्दलको आमचुनावमा उहाँ बहुदलको प्रचारमा कांग्रेसतर्फबाट धनकुटा खटिनुभएको थियो । मसँगको सम्बन्ध त्यही बेलादेखिकै हो । उहाँलाई त्यतिखरे हाम्रा दाजुभाइ कसैले पनि सहयोग गरेनन् । गाउँमा दाजुभाइ सबैजसो पञ्च थिए । म ११ वर्षको थिएँ, मलाई खै किन हो त्यतिखेरै पनि पञ्चायती शासकहरूप्रति घृणा लाग्थ्यो र धनकुटामा हुने पञ्चायत विरोधी जुलुश र सभामा बाल वक्ताका रूपमा मञ्चबाट भाषण गर्न थालेको थिएँ । मलाई राजनीतिमा त्यति थाहा थियो पहेंलो रंग पञ्चको हो, त्यो रंगलाई हराएरै छाड्नुपर्छ । नभन्दै दुर्गा दिदी काठमाडौंबाट आएपछि म उहाँसँग बहुदलको पक्षमा जनमत बटुल्न खोकु छिन्ताङदेखि धनकुटाका विभिन्न गाउँ पुगेको हिजोजस्तो लाग्छ । सूर्यबहादुर थापाले छिन्ताङ काण्ड मच्चाएर रक्तरंजित पारेको केही समयमै दिदी र म सहिद परिवारहरूको घर-आँगन पुगेर शासकीय बर्बरताको चरम रूप अध्ययन गरेका थियौं ।

why do people take different political ideologies, personally? Sadly, it happens a lot.

I know Durga Pokharel for quite some time now. I had a good relation with her until she decided to kiss Kings d..k. Yes she was Harvard product.... but hey that doesnt make her great. The only reason she licked kings feet is because she knew she couldnt reach anywhere in a free and competitive society. The only way to "achieve" sth for her was by supporting king,leaving behind all her principles. She is one of the most opportunist person I have ever seen in my life.

Let me enlighten you something: there are a lot of Nepali who WILL go back to NEPAL if they get a position of minister. Period. There is no sacrifice in that. The sacrifice is when you give up for almost nothing from the state.

Harvard educated means probably a lot to you, but doesn't mean a single thing to me. Has she published tons in research journals? What's her degree at ? It was probably worth only to get a job in some international organization-that too after making sure that she exploits her 3rd world woman status. It is not like she was a faculty at a top university and given up that too work as a teacher in Mahendra Morang Campus in Biratnagar.

Her husband is a saint, her kids are great, but she is a bitch, and will be so for a long time. Sometimes, one person's ambition takes her down to unchartered tunnels, and that's where she is now. As for giving salary to needy people, she is not alone in doing so. My relatives have given their precious lands to schools/colleges, which might be more in monetary terms than what she had given; Nepal is full of givers, remember late Narayan Pokhrel raised billions for different construction projects; if there were no givers, that wouldn't have been possible.

As far as I know, when she left for Nepal, she sure had no minister position waiting for her. She had to struggle a lot to be where she is now, be it hook or crook.

I still think Mrs. Pokhrel is a great lady. I am not good in politics and I need your help in that dept. but if she changed party alliances for the betterment of her career, u probably did a lot of apple polishing and changing companies for a better career be it higher position or an extra dgit in your salary. What's the difference? For me there is none.

Ya ALL OF US have relatives who give money to poorer people, what have u personally from your hard earned income given anything to the poor? I too can cite examples of my granpa (there is a whole temple to prove it) and later dad of giving. But then what have "u" and "me" done for the poor? Its high time we stop taking credit for our relatives' generosity.

yes I also had the same doubt when she became MAHILA AAYOG KO ADDHAYKSHA back, how could someone be eligible to hold such a high post withough possessing NEPALI NAGARAIKTA....and now she has been MINISTER, I really dont know by now if she has got NAGARAKITA.

Also its true that her husband (though CONVERTED into HINDU) is not allowed to enter PASHUPATINATH........ I read her article long back in Ktm.

I am using my nickname here, but believe me if you can, I have donated my own hard earned money in my neighborhood, and in a few villages in a mountainous district. The reason why I have to invoke my parent's generosity is because I am still a student. I also have given $2000.00 to establish a scholarship for madhesi/tharu/dalit students in my highschool. That was what I could do with my money.

In fact, those who studied undergrad or highschool in Nepal and ended up doing grad or undergrad work in top schools in USA DOES have moral obligation to give back to Nepal. I mean we got almost free undergraduate education in Nepal, and my grad student colleagues here are carrying a lot of loans from their undergrad study here. I was lucky I got undergrad education for (almost) free, but I know that other people in Nepal have sacrificed so that I could get that education. If Durga hadn't given back, that would have been a case of being ingrate. Giving back was an obligation. Now, by siding with the king who takes away almost a billion rupees everyyear while our people are dying without health post in remote district, she has taken away more than she has ever given back.
