Senior folk singer and respected musician Ram Thapa passed away on November 20th, 2008. He was 50. He had been suffering from liver complications for the past two years and was admitted at Norvic Hospital in Kathmandu for treatment. He was later cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat with his wife Rajani Thapa lighting the funeral pyre. Known for his humorous and unique brand of Nepali folk songs, the Late Ram Thapa has lent his voice and provided music to over 500 songs. Songs such as ‘Katar Katar Ma’, ‘ Le Kali Hey Choya Ko Doko’, ‘Bankali Mai’, ‘Thok Na Madal Thok’ are some of his hits which shall forever remain in our hearts. Other songs that he has composed and provided music for include such wonderful hits as Om Bikram Bista’s ‘Ma Maunta Ma’, Robin Sharma’s ‘Juni Juni Lai’, Tara Thapa’s ‘Sabalai Dine’, Arun Thapa’s award winning ‘Ritu Haru Ma Timi’ and countless others.

In another related news, Deep Shrestha along with his musical troupe, currently touring Seoul, Korea had plans of collecting some funds for the treatment of Ram Thapa through various Nepali organizations, concerts and documentaries on him on Saturday, 22nd November. They have been devastated with the news of his demise but wish to go ahead with the raising of funds, which they intend to hand over to his wife upon their return to Kathmandu. Born in Kamal Pokhari, Kathamndu in the year 2015 BS, Ram Thapa began his singing career in the year 2031 BS. He was working as a senior music coordinator at Radio Nepal for the past 20 years. He may have left for the heavenly abode but his music shall always remain close to our hearts for a long, long time. We, here, at fursad.com pray for the peace of his eternal soul and may god grant his family and near ones the courage to bear this irrepressible loss. May his soul rest in peace

Really a sad news.

I remember Ram Thapa as a singer, a musician, a teacher and a father of a friend.

Back in the school, I enjoyed-as much as I enjoyed bunking his classes-the tunes that he thought us. Till date,  I still  find myself humming the funnuest song ever, "Chewing gum Chapaudai, maaya timlai parkhi baasey jheegha dhapaudai," that he thought us back in the school days.

I still have memories of teasing his son--who passed away few years ago--with Ram Thapa's song "thok na madal thok, sano maaya ko khaacho cha, maauka parey thook!!"

Ram Thapa sir might be dead, but he will live among many of us with his music and memories that he left behind.

"rinke-bung ko rango lai, chunke-bung ko chulesi le, taplejung ma takera ,kalebung ma katera, devi deuta bhakera, phulai laula kesari, khaula besari"

May his soul rest in peace!!
