Does anybody know how much% tax one have to pay in California.... working with a H1B visa? what is average living cost in suburbs of LA. Please somebody answer...I'm in real confusion...I've got a job offer but couldn't figure it out how much i'll be saving if my salery is 65K. ..

IM ji,

Federal tax should be the same whenever you go. In California you have to pay California disability insurance which is good in case you loose your job and of course state tax like other state except only 5 or 6 states. 65K not bad. You can live in cheap area in orderto avoid high cost of living. Food cost would be similar to other states. Sales tax range from 7.25 % to 8.75 % depends upon cities and county. Gasoline may be expensive than some states.
I am living here in LA for one year. For me , cost of living is not that much different than my previous state ( east coast). If you want to buy house.. that is expensive.. i mean real expensive.

One thing for sure WEATHER IS FANTASTIC. Welcome.

Thanks Guchha ji, I'm in texas...no state tax here.. and it cost only $800-$900 per mo for a good single bed room apartment.....but i only earn 53k....so i'm tryin to compare...TX or CA...still in confusion.

If you are making 53K in Texas, then I think it is better then making 65K in LA. Other then food all the other living expenses are higher unless u rent in a crappy neighborhood. And with 53K u may be able to afford a house in Texas but in LA $65K is never going to buy u one unless u have a hefty down payment.
