Hi Guys,

I am graduating this summar and have filed for OPT with the starting date of oct 1,2008. I want to go to Nepal before this (summar) semester ends.Since I have already filed for OPT, will that be a problem to come back to the US? or, may be I don't have to visit the counsellor's office in Nepal, as my current F1 visa will be still valied till this semester ends!! I don't know...plz share if you have any idea, suggestion or opinion.

Thanks

I might be wrong but from my understanding you should be fine. I had a cousin leave for Nepal and return to US while she was on her OPT. Hence, I'd say as long as you have the documents the immigration wouldn't really hammer you down. I'd also suggest that you talk it over with your Int'l student adviser. Good Luck and Congratulations (in advance)...

Kiran! We (Me and my wife) have gone through the same situation. We are graduating this July and we applied for OPT(EAD) on 23rd of April, went to Nepal on 26th of April and got back to US on 12th of May. We had no problem. Our I-20s were valid through September and visas through July 2007. I think this helps you.

Awesome! Thank you buddies.

RajaHarischandra, did you have to go for the interview at US consulate's office while you came back to the US on May?

No, I didn't. If you have valid visa and I-20 and you are not graduating before your departure, you should be fine.
