Hey guys, my employment based GC is pending and I need to travel to Nepal for some family emergency soon. My h1b visa stamp expired, so I am thinking to travel using my AP card which I received as part of the green card process. I have a transit in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Has anyone traveled recently to Nepal using AP? I verified with Emirates that they accept AP, but I am just concerned about the immigration officials in Nepal. While coming back to US, do they allow me to board the plane by just showing AP? Thank you for any help you can provide.

One of my friend had traveled through AP 2 times, he told me that he had hired the lawyer to travel to NEPAL in case you are stopped in port of entry , he travel 2 times safely, so I just recommend u to travel and hire a lawyer they take 300 to 500 for this type of case just to be in a safe side good luck ,,,, my friend paid 350 for first time and 250 for second time to lawyer,,,,

Punter, thanks for your reply. I did talk to my lawyer and some Indian colleagues who recently traveled using AP. They all said its not a problem. I am not too concerned about port of entry as people who were out of status and has criminal record can be denied entry in AP, and I do not have those issues. My only concern is immigration officials in Nepal. You know in Nepal they check visa before they let you board the plane. I amn't sure if Nepali immigration officials are familiar with AP document.

I did that few years back without any issue. I think the travel documents for Advance Parole is pretty common. We all go through the stage when our h1b is finished and we are awaiting green card.

Thanks Wonton for your reply. So, you had no problem with Nepali immigration officials and they accepted AP to let you board the plane? Thanks again.

Recollecting what other had said in previous posts, If the immigration officer in Nepal does not have any idea about advance parole and asks for visa, describe them about what AP says and they will ask their supervisor or head of the immigration who will have idea about advance parole n lets you pass thru the airport.

Thank you guys for the help. I will go ahead and confirm the ticket. Looks like Nepali immigration officials have been seeing AP document since 2009, so I guess they are familiar with it now. Thank you!

I am just updating this thread, so it might be helpful to other folks in future. I did travel to Nepal and came back to US using advance parole yesterday. There was no issue in Nepal whatsoever. In the immigration section in Nepal, I presented my EAD/AP combo card and the immigration officer thought it was green card and she she made a comment - "aru ko green card green huncha tara tapaiko ta red cha ta". I didn't say anything and I smiled. She then put the stamp in the passport as departed. The first time she put the stamp, stamp was out of ink, so it was not legible. She then added ink and stamped again. The second time, due to the poor quality of the ink, it messed up my schengen visa (ink got scattered in the visa page). I hope it won't be an issue as I am traveling to Europe next month.
